Acts 2:44 – “And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common…”
The earliest church manuscripts don’t have evidence that the two words, “were” or “and” are in this verse of Scripture! So if you will read this slowly with me it takes on a new, very rich meaning! Let’s read it slowly “…and those who believed together had all things in common…” To me it’s stunning – it reminds me of how important it is that we are together in what we believe which can also lead us to an easy conclusion that we must be together in what we are taught! When I say “be together” I mean it in two specific areas, they are:
First) we need to physically be together, often. The early church made it a practice to be together daily as Acts 2:46 states. Hebrews 10:25 also reminds us and encourages us to “..not forsake the assembling of ourselves together…” So let’s make it a point to elevate the priority of being together. Don’t go through life alone, we have lots of opportunities to connect at CFTN.F.
Second) we need to spiritually be together with what we are being taught! While we all have certain “favorite preachers” it is vital that we are influenced and taught by and on the same topic, Scripture or lesson as often as possible. Especially as a church full of leaders who are called on for a variety of reasons throughout our city, it is important that we are “speaking the same language” as often as we can – the language of the Kingdom!!
I look forward to the increasing opportunities for us to Grow Together in Grace as we endeavor the see Christ exalted and His influence expanded in our lives!
A life long “together learner”
